Terms of Service

What the Service is

adulting.app helps you organize household administration: maintenance tasks, renewals and deadlines, household records, document storage, and related reminders, personalized to your household and shareable with people you invite.

Not professional advice

The Service provides general organizational suggestions and educational content — including maintenance schedules, DIY guidance, document checklists, and financial-basics reminders. It is not financial, legal, tax, insurance, or professional home-safety advice, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. Home maintenance and DIY projects carry real risk of injury and property damage; you are responsible for judging what is safe for you to do and for complying with local codes. Verify any deadline or requirement that matters (taxes, insurance, registrations) against the authoritative source.

Your account

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Keep your password secure: you are responsible for activity under your account. Provide a real email address — we use it for verification, security notices, and the reminders you enable. If you believe your account has been compromised, reset your password immediately; changing it signs out all other sessions.

Households and sharing

The Service is organized around households. Content you add to a household — tasks, records, uploaded documents — is visible to that household's members according to their roles. Invite only people you trust; a member you invite can see, add to, and (depending on role) change household content. Removing a member ends their access but does not undo changes they made while a member.

Your content

You own the content you add, including documents you upload to the vault. You grant us the limited license needed to operate the Service: storing your content, backing it up, displaying it to your household, and — only when you explicitly use a feature that requires it, like document scanning — processing it with the service providers named in the Privacy Policy. We don't sell your content or use it to train AI models.

You are responsible for what you upload. Don't upload content that is unlawful, infringes others' rights, or contains malware. File types and sizes are restricted; we may remove content that violates these Terms.

Acceptable use

Don't misuse the Service: no unauthorized access, probing, or scraping; no interfering with the Service or its security measures (including the registration challenge); no reselling the Service; no using it to store or distribute unlawful material. API access is provided through household API keys — keep them secret, and don't exceed reasonable request volumes. We may throttle, suspend, or terminate accounts that put the Service or other users at risk.

Plans, trials, and billing

The Service offers free and paid capabilities. Paid plans, when offered, are billed through our payment processor, Stripe; we don't store card numbers. Trials convert or expire as described at signup. Prices and plan limits may change with notice; changes apply from your next billing period. Unless required by law, payments are non-refundable, but you can cancel any time and keep access for the period you've paid for.

Affiliate links and recommendations

Some content (for example, DIY guides and product or insurance suggestions) may contain affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy through them at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never change what we recommend, and recommendations remain general information, not professional advice.

Termination

You can stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time (see the Privacy Policy for how). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create risk for us or other users, or after extended inactivity with notice. On termination we delete your content on the schedule described in the Privacy Policy. Sections of these Terms that by their nature survive termination (like limitations of liability) survive.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that reminders will always arrive — keep your own records of anything critical.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim arising out of the Service is limited to the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes to the Service and these Terms

We're a small product that improves continuously; features may change or be discontinued. We may update these Terms, and if a change is material we'll notify you (by email or in the app) before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law and contact

The Service is operated from the United States and directed to United States residents. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules; disputes belong to the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts.
